Planning for Boracay

My first visit to Boracay was in 2009. I am not sure how accurate my Boracay guide is now, but it’s something to start with. This time, I will be in the company of Ryan’s friends. We’re going to be 9.

In my opinion, traveling to the beach should always be a group adventure. It saves you a whole lot of money. The costs for accommodations, food, beach activities, etc, are divided into smaller amounts, which is super budget-friendly. I intend to bring Php5,000. I think that’s more than enough. I don’t intend to buy stuff that I don’t need. I only want some pearl rosaries to bring home, and maybe, some razorbacks.

The rainy season has come, but I am still hoping for a pleasant weather when we fly to Boracay by the end of June. I want to explore the island more than I did before. Hopefully, it will be a vacation to remember.

Going The Distance

My cousin came home from Canada for a short visit. We threw him a Bon Voyage get together last Sunday, and he asked me, “Don’t you want to try working in Canada?”. I paused. He said that he can tell by the look on my face that I am tired of what I am doing right now, and that I am ready to work on going abroad.

In February, I flew to Hong Kong for a short vacation. In that short time, I fell in love with the city. Wait, is Hong Kong a city? I have plans on finding a job there, and I hope I can find one soon. I am in the process of saving up money to support this goal. It won’t be easy, I know that, but it has to be done. We have a piece of property in Makati and we would like to put up a business there.

Experiencing the culture for a short period of time was enough for me to decide that I want to try living there to work for a while. Of course, it would definitely be a big change for me. I would have to study common Chinese phrases and perfect eating with chopsticks. I would need to take some classes, too, acquire additional knowledge. I am even thinking about enrolling in the University of the Philippines.

There are so many things that I want to accomplish. Some say that at my age, it’s almost too late, but I don’t want to believe that. Positivity and hard work will do the trick.

The Fort

Last night, I dreaded my commute to work. I didn’t know where our building was and I’ve only seen the location from an online map. I thought I know where I was supposed to go, but I ended up walking the longer route. Good thing I thought to wear my Nike training shoes. The only thing I forgot to bring was water. I had to stop by 7Eleven to buy Gatorade and a cup of French Vanilla coffee.

Everything in our office is new. Since I am one of the first to transfer to the new office, I was able to choose one of the best seats. I chose the corner workstation, beside the window. Our new office is still bare. We don’t even have a trashcan yet.

It is actually a refreshing change from our previous office. The old office is in a old building with old facilities. The air conditioning doesn’t work all the time, the vending machines sometimes house ants, and the restrooms are always infested with cockroaches. Now, I can actually wear layered outfits without worrying about feeling warm. The restroom is always stocked up with tissue and no roaches! We even have free coffee from the pantry. Hurray for free coffee!

Hopefully, tomorrow’s commute will be much better. I still plan to wear my training shoes. I hope all this walking will help me lose a few pounds!

New Theme, New Office

After a looooong time, I finally changed my theme. I think my previous theme was up for more than a year. I was bitten by a theme-bug yesterday and decided to make one. It’s patterned over my previous theme because I’m lazy like that. I used the photos from my Hong Kong – Macau trip. I really fell in love with Hong Kong. I even want to find a job and settle there. I am saving up enough money so that I can take up a few I.T. courses and fly to Hong Kong for a job.

On Monday, May 2, I will start commuting to Taguig for our new office. I dread the commute. It is much farther from my previous job. I am currently working from home, and I love it. The only thing that I dislike about my job is speaking to clients overseas. The client that I’m handling right now is sometimes a pain. I guess, most clients are like that. Some of the tasks that she’s asking me to do is beyond my expertise, but I try to accomplish what’s needed. So far, I’ve encountered no problems that I couldn’t solve.

Chronic Bitchface

So I was browsing through my Tumblr dashboard, when I came across this illustration: (please click to enlarge)

Illustration found here.

Anyway, it has been a constant first impression of me wherever I go. Sometimes, I feel like I am forcing a smile when I am trying not to show my “bitchface”. It’s an inevitable reality that I have to face everyday. I mean, no one can ever say that their first impression of me is “a friendly person”. If that ever happens, that person is lying. Seriously.

I have experienced a lot of those paper-pass-arounds, where your colleagues write down their first impression of you along with a positive comeback. The following are the constants:

  • Bossy
  • Brassy
  • Snob
  • Bitchy
  • Arrogant

After which, follows, “After getting to know her, I find her…”:

  • Friendly
  • Nice
  • Kind
  • Great listener
  • Thoughtful

I can list more items on both lists, but those are just the constants. There’s really nothing I can do about my face. I’ve been thought to be Korean when I was at the mall, shopping. I was also thought to be Chinese, while waiting for my friend’s performance in Hong Kong Disneyland. Maybe, my eyes are the ones that make me look bitchy? Hmm…

Go Vegan?

I grew up in a country that eats a lot of meat. Everyday is meat day. I want to live a healthier lifestyle, but why is eating healthy much more expensive? Anyone can easily buy a cheeseburger for P50, and that includes french fries and Coke; whereas choosing to eat something healthy costs more than that.

Some of the benefits on going vegan are the following:

  • Getting more fiber intake.
  • Boosts the immune system; I get Vitamin B, C, E and more.
  • Increased energy because of the carbohydrates.
  • Disease prevention, like cancer.
  • Healthier skin.
  • Weight loss.

I don’t know how I’m going to start this. Maybe I can start by being a vegetarian first, then slowly turn into a vegan. I wish there was someone to do this with me at home so that I will feel more motivated to continue living healthy.

Is The Philippines in danger of a huge earthquake?

Everyone knows about the huge earthquake that happened in Japan, and for the past 2 days, the Philippines have experienced the shaking of the earth. The first was on the 20th, of magnitude 6.4 in Ilocos Norte, great thing that no one was hurt.

Yesterday, a magnitude 4 shook parts of Manila and nearby provinces. I think I felt it, but I was part sleeping, so I wasn’t sure. I am hoping that the fact that my country is composed of 7,107 islands, that we aren’t much in danger of a tsunami, but that’s just me, trying to comfort myself with that thought.

Like everyone in the world, I pray for everyone’s safety. I hope nothing like this ever happens to anyone else in the world.

God bless us all.

Getting Around Hong Kong – Macau

Since we stayed at Tung Chung, I can only tell you how to get to places from Tung Chung, Hong Kong.

Travel Tip: Once you arrive in Hong Kong, buy an Octopus Card. It costs $150 and is preloaded with $100. When you return the card, you get your $50 back.

Tung Chung to Macau:

  • Ride the MTR (Orange Line) to Hong Kong Stn or Central Stn
  • From the Hong Kong Stn, transfer to the Blue Line (Chai Wan Stn) and ride the train to Sheung Wan. It’s only one station from Hong Kong/Central.
  • From Sheung Wan, make your way towards the mall and find the ticketing booths for the ferry. It’s easy to find, since there are signs in English saying Ferry Terminal.
  • Buy your tickets from Cotai Jet @ $146 (day trip). Their tickets are cheaper and they have schedules from 7AM every 30minutes. At 7PM the ferry leaves every hour until 1AM. The ferry ride takes 1 hour. Make sure you choose to dock at the Outer Harbor.

When you arrive at the port, you have to go through immigration. You don’t need a Visa when you’re coming from Hong Kong. All you need is your passport and the Immigration form that can be found near the entrance of the terminal. When you exit from the immigration, you will see hotel buses and cabs. Hotel buses are free. I suggest that you head over to The Venetian Hotel first in Taipa and explore the huge hotel, then work your way back to Macau; end your trip by going to the famous hotels like Wynn, MGM Grand, and Starworld Hotel. From there, you can ride their bus for free back to the ferry terminal.

If you know how long you’ll be staying in Macau, make sure that you buy a return ticket from Cotai Jet. When we arrived at the terminal to buy a return ticket at 8:30PM, their booth was closed. We lucked out that a fellow Pinoy was manning the TurboJet booth and we had a $99 discount for the return ticket.

New Web Host

I finally left my stinking host, TracSpace, the worst web host ever!

Anyway, I will be posting my long overdue Guide to Hong Kong in the next few days.

This is a short post. Ever.

Hurray for HostGator! Their technical support is superb. I can chat with a real person 24/7. My queries are answered right away, which is a good sign. I think, maybe, I will stick with them.

Hong Kong Disneyland

Going to Disneyland has always been a dream of mine since I was little. I grew up watching a lot of Disney films, and I loved all the Princess movies. I know a lot of little girls love Cinderella, Snow White, Princess Aurora (a.k.a Sleeping Beauty), Belle, Jasmine, Ariel, Pocahontas and Mulan. Over the years, Disney has produced a lot of films that tickle the hearts of both young and old.

When I was invited to come for a trip to Hong Kong, I got so excited because I knew one of our stops was Disneyland! The first thing that we did when we arrived was eat at the Starliner. The food was quite expensive, but the servings are good enough for two. I spent $61 for my meal. Then we spent a lot of time exploring. By 3PM, we were already waiting for our friend. He’s part of the parade. The theme for Hong Kong Disneyland’s 5th year is “Flights of Fantasies”. It was our first time to watch German, our friend, perform during the parade. He’s been working there for 4 years now. If I was as talented as he is, I would’ve joined Disney’s HK performers!

“Look at this stuff… isn’t it neat? Wouldn’t you think my collection’s complete? Wouldn’t you think I’m the girl The girl who has ev’rything? ~ Ariel”

We all enjoyed watching The Golden Mickeys. This show will really take you back to your childhood. It showcases musical-awards ceremony that gives honor to Disney’s famous characters. Bebe, a Chinese performer, was the one who hosted the show. She sang and danced with the Disney characters, while announcing the nominees for the different categories.
