Today, I exercised my right to vote. This time it’s for the local elections. I personally know the Barangay Captain I voted for, but half of the board members, I don’t know. So I only voted for the ones I know.

I am so glad there is no line, or that would’ve ruined my morning. I finished casting my vote in about five minutes. Record-breaking.

Yesterday, the Philippine Local Election was held. I was one of the poll watchers for a very good candidate, Gilberto L. Igtiben. We were confident that our candidate for the Barangay Captain will win. But money does buy votes. I am worried for my community because the one who won is a member of a family of politicians who’s been known to practice corruption. xmisswickedx

I remember moving in this community in 1994, but only in the last 3 years have I felt safer to walk alone in our community. You can even see that the streets are cleaner and are being maintained well. Before, I felt a great resentment towards my parents for making us move here. I left a lot of friends and a better school. I am afraid that the things that I resented the most, would go back.

Barangay Captain Gilberto Igtiben did a great job during his time. He was able to send out of school youths to school; built local infrastructures; provided free medicine; gave business opportunities to housewives; and he even gave me a chance to use my skills in digital graphics.

A measly Php100 for for your vote? How long can anyone spend this money? One day? Two days? HALF-A-DAY?! Why didn’t they think of the 3 years that they would have to deal with this newly elected official? That scum-of-a-b!@$%! They even harassed some of the election officers. My mother knows 2 election officers personally, and they were threatened to ride another vehicle with the ballot box and be taken to another place and get the ballots switched. That wasn’t the first time that happened. Politics is really dirty.

According to the local news, some local officials made this election a trial for the next national elections. A lot of communities were tagged to have had “Failure of Elections”. In Sulu, no election officers came because days before, running candidates tried to kill each other using machetes.

I can feel the sadness in the air. A lot of real voters are disappointed with the results. We were able bag positions for barangay members. Like Ace Servillon, who bagged the first position. All our candidates for Sangguniang Kabataan won. Still, it won’t be the same.
My mother will be not be working for the barangay anymore. It will be hard for everyone who loves Sir Igtiben to work for another official. Sir Igtiben have lots of plans, plans that will not be realized now. A lot of projects were lined up. I wonder what will happen now. I am depressed.

Maybe in three years, he won’t run for Barangay Captain anymore, maybe he will be the next Mayor of our community. I hope so.

I’ve always categorized politics as dirty, that’s why I usually steer clear of the subject. It’s always a big debate among opposing opinions, specially here in the Philippines. I mentioned in my previous post that the candidate I voted for the mayoral position was not winning, well he was declared winner, according to our local news. Hurrah! xmisswickedx

Along with that, the candidate who lost is sour graping, big time. Their party is now accusing the other of cheating. I know a lot of first hand information regarding that issue. At one point, a man punched my mom’s friend, a mother, at the back during the canvassing of votes because that woman saw the chairman reading their candidate’s name, when it’s actually the other candidate’s name. I can only hope for the best. I am actually glad that most of the senators that I voted for are getting ahead, according to the last unofficial results flashed on TV.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End

Nobody move! I think I lost me brain… — Jack Sparrow

Oh yes, Captain Jack Sparrow is back!

Unlike other films that we over hyped by the media, and made us a little disappointed… this third addition of The Pirates of the Caribbean is not on that list. Like the previous 2 films, it takes time before the action starts, like waiting for the meat to cook, but once the ball gets rolling, it doesn’t stop there. I know that POTC2 was a bit disappointing because of the ending… well, this one would truly make up for it. I knew they should’ve not omitted Barbossa’s character on the 2nd installment. The CGI effects on this film is not disappointing either. I mean, talk about the “Fish people”.

New characters were added, like Chow Yun Fat as Captain Sao Feng, which fitted right into the movie. There were a lot of quick-witted jests, especially from Sparrow, that surely made my viewing experience much more pleasurable. You would definitely see a lot of Sparrows in the movie. Two were killed. *lol* So, don’t eat the Captain’s peanuts!

I applaud Keira Knightley’s performance. Johnny Depp as Sparrow has always been great. Well, Depp, like a great actor as he is, definitely made the character very believable and memorable. Bloom, well, I liked him as an elf. But I give him props during the battle on this film.

I love the final battle in the movie. A lot of action and funny lines in between. Watch out for the wedding and Jack’s dad!

I am hoping that this is not the end, because pirates have never ending adventures. Just ask Jack, who is off to get the Agua Vida. Hahaha!

One question though, What really happened to Calypso?

The Fifteen

So here are the rules : Each player of this game starts off with 15 weird things/habits/little known facts about yourself. People who get tagged, need to write an entry of their own 15 weird things/habits/little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end, you need to choose 10 people to be tagged and list their names.

I exercised my right 2 days ago. It was my first time to vote, and along with that, I was a poll watcher, too. I got up at 5am to get ready and walk to the precinct. By 7am, I stood in line to wait for my turn to vote. It took me about 10 minutes to finish writing all the candidates that I feel deserve to win. After casting my vote, I was on duty. xmisswickedx

My sister, a neighbor and I were in charge of looking up people’s names on the master list and providing them of their precinct number. I discovered a lot of things while doing that. I realized that there are a lot of people from our neighborhood that are very honest. When they see the names of their relatives on the list, they inform us that they can’t vote because they’re either dead, out of the country, or is unavailable to vote. But I also discovered that there are names on the list that are doubled, or is still listed to vote on our area even if they have transfered to vote somewhere else. It’s a bit disappointing to actually see the list with false data. Tsk tsk…

Voting started at 7am and ended at 3pm. We started counting the votes by 4:30pm. Two of us we’re assigned to tally the votes as they were read out load by the chairman. We finished tallying the 92 ballots at 10pm. It’s disappointing to know that some voters didn’t fill out the ballot completely. Some were even blank.

I think the candidate that I voted for the mayoral position is not going to win, based on the results from neighboring municipalities. He won from ours. I do hope that after the counting is done, he would be declared as the winner. He has done a lot for our community. The flooding has lessened, streetlights has been installed on the main road, and I think that the community is much cleaner.I also noticed that more people are smarter voters now. I am so glad that the candidates for senators that I voted for are leading. The local actors who ran are way down below the unofficial results. I do hope that no hocus-pocus happens or we’re doomed!

I am so glad I survived. I got home at 3am! I didn’t go the the Municipal Hall anymore to bring the election returns. The coordinator is in charge of that and chose 3 other poll watchers to come along. I was dead tired. When I got home, I only had time to brush my teeth and change clothes. When I hit the bed, I just fell asleep immediately.

So far, the elections have been peaceful in our community. But, there are some unfortunate incidents that were shown on the news. Like the 2 teachers who died when a school building in Taysan, Batangas was engulfed by fire. One candidate for councilor also died of a heart attack after receiving a false text message saying that he lost, but in reality, he got into the top 12.

I just hope that the persons who deserve to win, wins!
