Cory Aquino, Mother of Philippine Democracy

President Corazon C. Aquino, 11th Philippine President.

President Corazon C. Aquino
1933 – 2009

May you rest in peace. May your sacrifice remain in the hearts of all Filipinos and cause us to stand up against the people who abuse the power that were entrusted to them by the Filipino people.

I was almost 4 years old when my country, the Philippines, was set free from the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos. Back then, I wasn’t aware of what was happening around me. When I was old enough to understand what it was, I realized what this plain widowed housewife stood for.

Because of her, the Filipinos are free.

I am free.

I know a lot of Filipinos who came here because they weren’t free. They go back for trips every now and then since now they are free to do so, so it is truly amazing to know what freedom is, especially for those who haven’t always had what should be a natural birth right.
