Part Time

It started last Friday. My status at work is “part time”. It’s not a good thing at all because that just means I do not have a regular job. 12 hours a week? My salary is now 1/4 of my previous salary!

My mom agrees that I should quit my job. I don’t have a backup plan at the moment, although I do have a freelance project at the moment. It’s not a permanent gig, so after getting myself cool gifts this Christmas, I am now holding on to all the money I have left…

It’s a bit hard to find a decent job right now, especially the kind of job that I want, which is not what my mom suggested, a call center agent. Now, I have nothing against call center agents, it’s just that I’ve done that before and it’s not for me. The late work hours, the non-stop talking to people on the phone… I can’t and refuse to do it anymore. My sister suggested that I should stay for the 2 months training and quit after that… Well, I just might, but I am only 10% sure of that.

Maybe I should look for homebased jobs. I hate city traffic and hotheaded commuters. Well, there is a lot to think about, and I hope I find a new job soon.

  1. I hope you have some luck finding a job you’ll enjoy. I have the problem that I just never knew what I wanted to do, and now I could never go back to getting paid minimum to start somewhere else. I do want to get out of the retail business though. Homebased job would be a dream, but then I don’t think I would be a motivated enough person to do it lol.

  2. hi! i agree with you as re: not wanting to be a call center agent! and i’m also not against it, I AM ONE! haha! it’s just that if i have a choice, then i’d rather practice what i studied for. however, it’s the only highest paying job i can get at the moment so i’m sticking with it ’til i can save up for a nice house, car and my baby girl…God bless in your job hunt!

your sister’s idea is considerable btw…if you are not really planning to go for the call center industry, pick a call center that offers day training that’ll span for a month or two, just take your first pay (or the sign-in bonus wink) and go awol (resignation might entail a bond payment, unless it’s a no bond company)…hehehe! bad influence!

  3. I remember when I made the change from full-time to part-time last summer before school. It was a bit of culture shock!!

  4. Seems like it’s hard to find a good job now all around the world. Good luck with finding one that you like!

anyway, may i suggest a job :) since you hate the traffic and the commuters, the rush hour and all… why not make money through the internet. sorry for i cannot say much on that since i do not have a clear idea on how other bloggers earn much through it :)

i wish you best of luck in finding the job you want :)

  8. The downsides of working as a call center agent are really taxing. But then again, the compensation is good. Hehe. It’s got advantages and disadvantages.. and I think the disadvantages outweighs the advantages. Haay.

Well, seriously, I want to try that work once I’m done with college (actually, I can apply now pero studies are still my priorities). Gusto ko lang maexperience kung papaano ang work ng isang call center agent.

Good luck on finding a suitable job!

  9. Jobhunting is one of the most difficult things. When I took a year off from college, I had like 5 different jobs in 1 year just because I couldn’t find a suitable job. Now I have a homebased job, I do design & PR for several rockbands, and it’s a lot of fun. Hope you can find something soon!

  10. you should try again, against all odds talagang parte na ng buhay itong mga to:
    City traffic and hotheaded commuters.

  11. Good luck in finding a new job! Maybe another thing you could consider, if your current part time hours are stable, is to find another part time job as well? It seems like part time is easier to get in some industries than full time with the economy.

  12. Ugh, it’s just so difficult to find a job you actually enjoy.. But for me it’s either “deal with it” or “starve”, because as long as I am in school I probably won’t be able to find something even remotely interesting :/

Good luck to you though.. Don’t give up!! ;)

  14. Aw, that’s sad. Hope you find a job you like soon! Call center agent? I know one and I can see that the schedule is just soooo crazy! It’s hard to talk nonstop to people on the phone too. It’s not my kind of job too. :| Why is it so hard to find work these days? :(

  15. Aww. Goodluck to all of us! Same here, I don’t want to work as a CSR primarily because I don’t see myself “growing” there.

    Pride, I know. Hehe!

  16. Jobs are not easy to come by anywhere… even where I live. I have resorted to push my freelancing harder than ever. My previous job was good pay but the harrassing, I decided to resign and also report their behavior to the State of Illinois Department of Human Rights.

Hopefully you find something decent even if a home-based business. I hear paid to review sites are not too bad a trying out.

  17. That’s horrible about your job. I wish I could help you find one, but these days, I find it difficult to even help find my friends jobs. It also doesn’t help that I don’t even know you… ha ha

Maybe you’ll win the lottery…even though you didn’t even buy a ticket.

  18. That sucks about the pay cut. I hope you can find a fulltime job, soon! Be a hooker? I tried it once. They get paid a lot. (I’m so kidding).

  19. nako ang hrap pala talaga pag walang work no? Sana makahanap kna mhrap dn ksi ang part time.. eh anytime pede bgla mwala ang work mo..

  20. Hi,

I hear ya on the job. I need to leave my job. I really enjoy it but its way too stressful on me and its no good because theres a girl that treats me like complete shit and I just cant take it anymore. It sucks to leave because of one girl, but I think I really have to now.

  22. Good luck finding a new job. I know I’ve been trying to find a part-time to supplement my current job and it’s been hard. My roommate can’t seem to find one either.

You might want to consider working some place you don’t like until you can find that thing you do want to do. But I’m sure you’ll find something.

  23. Sorry about your job! I hope that you find something else other than call center work. I’ve never done that kind of thing, but I’ve known people who have. They hated it, too. I can’t imagine all that talking on the phone. Ugh.
