I am hosted under iRock Webhosting, and they recently experienced a nightmare. Well, their server hard drive crashed. I noticed that my websites have been down for a few days and I thought nothing of it. I thought I forgot to pay my hosting, so I checked my invoices, and I did pay. I sent them a ticket and got this answer:
Andreana we do apologize for this but we need to be honest and straight forward to you . Our HDD crashed and at this point of time we’re recovering it however we cannot guarantee you that these backups works as we’ tried rolling it out yesterday evening and all account got corrupted. I know how frustrating it is to you as well as on our part but this really the main reason why we are sending new account information again.
They also posted this on their website:
We’ve found out that there was a hard disk failure and we are currently looking into the hard disk. Also our weekly backups had nowhere to restore all files as the uploaded had gone corrupted. We do apologize for this matter.
We know that all your files are important but we’ll do our best to restore all files as much as we could. Thank you.
I was in denial for a whole day. I didn’t want the nightmare to sink in. I didn’t want to think that I had to rebuild four websites; of which, the last backups were from February 2010. All the posts that I wrote after that are lost. Of course, things like these are inevitable, but what added to my frustration is the fact that I had to ask before I knew that something big like this is going on. Plus, I was with Ryan and it was his birthday. I didn’t want to ruin his special day.
Sigh.
Two of my good friends are affected, too. Pao and Lexie. Like Pao, I would appreciate a heads up and an apology by email to everyone who are affected. Well, there’s nothing I can do now.
Lesson learned. Weekly backups!

and yet, hindi parin ako nagbabackup until now. haha. i really should remember to do that.
