Reconnecting
I seriously have two drafts that I’ve been working on but just cannot finish. For some reason, my brain feels fried and I can’t seem to finish any of the posts that I’ve started.
Anyway, here’s one I can talk about in short sentences. My friend of 14 years, whom I haven’t seen in 7 years, dropped meĀ a call last Saturday. She wants us to meet up. She’s currently an intern at Chinese General Hospital. My friend left for Iloilo before the start of high school, so we kept our communication via snail mail. We religiously wrote each other long letters, telling stories about our life. When emailing and chatting boomed, we tried to communicate more often, but failed. We mostly send text message, but it wasn’t as often as we want to.
Sunday, June 7, we met at one of the biggest malls in Manila. We had pizza and pasta, and talked for hours. I learned a lot about her new life now. She’s married with one girl. Her internship is for 1 year, and by next year, she will take the medical board exam. Yes, she will be a doctor if she passes the board exam. How cool is that? I have a doctor for a friend!
I would say that our friendship didn’t change. Our lives did, but we managed to find a common ground. I do hope she chooses to practice medicine here in Manila so that we can catch up more often. I really miss her. If she didn’t leave before, she would’ve been my best best friend. I don’t have that.

Wow. That’s great! Six months ago, I also reunited with an old friend. The last time we saw each other was like 10 years ago (grade school graduation). She left the Philippines to stay in Singapore. We used to send letters too thru snail mail… But when her family moved to New Zealand, we lost contact and just say hi to each other at Friendster. When she informed me that she’s going to the Philippines, I really tried my best to meet up with her. Ang sarap ng feeling to catch up with each others’ lives.

Aww, it’s really nice that nothing changed between the two of you. I hope more friends would be like you. It’s so sad that even though today’s communication technology is so advanced, some still don’t bother to catch up with each other’s lives and as a result, they drift farther away from each other.
Oh yeah, and having a doctor for a friend is a pretty cool thing!
I’ll be having a doctor for a brother so I know how that feels. Haha.
