Sweeney Todd

Sweeney Todd

This afternoon, Ryan and I went to see Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. I am a big Johnny Depp fan, because in his movies, he always tries to reinvent himself. He doesn’t have the same roles. Say for example, Mark Wahlberg, who I also like, has been a cop in movies more than once. Dark humor is what you’re going to get on this film, but it is done in a very tasteful manner. Tim Burton, the director of the film, has always been known to do films that have a gothic feel in it, and you’re going to see that on this flick, but with so many good films under his belt (Big Fish, Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Batman), it is hard to ignore this one.

Johnny Depp definitely did a great job. His role was believable, and he’s going to make you flinch on your seat. Did I mention that the film IS musical? Yes, Sir Johnny did sing, even though he says he can’t, his voice sounded good to me. Helena Bonham Carter (Mrs. Lovett), well-known for her character in Harry Potter movie as Bellatrix, did justice to her role as well. Alan Rickman (Snape in Harry Potter) played the role of Judge Turpin.

Now, I don’t want to write any spoilers here, all I can tell you is that it is gory all the way, through and through, but the all the singing and dark humor would surely entertain you. Five out of five stars!

Are you planning to watch this film, too?

Yeah, Depp is great.

I liked the movie.
Especially, how all the “evil” people got what was coming to them (including Sweeney Todd).

Yeah I wanna see this movie! Like now, like maybe after work. And then sneak in to see Juno also. And Cloverfield. There’s a lot of movies I want to see. And I bet this Sweeney Todd’s not bad. Johnny Depp’s in it! =]

I loved Sweeney Todd. My two favorite bits were the song about all of the different professions going into the meat pies and when the bodies thumped on teh floor in the basement.

@Laarni: Yes, it was him who sang. It’s not the best voice, but he can sing in tune ;)
