Making Love With Superman

I am inside our house, I know it. Every piece of furniture is where it is supposed to be, but why does it seem a little cooler than what it should be? I walk down the stairs to find an intimate party with my family and some friends. The lighting looks like it’s from an old chandelier, yellowish and sad.

At the foot of the stairs, I saw my mom and I asked her where Ryan is. My mom pointed towards the sofa, and there he was, sleeping. I walked towards him and told him to sleep in one of the rooms upstairs.

Closely looking at him, he seems a lot taller, his hair is curly and his built is more solid. Just who is this guy? I kept on looking at him while we ascend upstairs. I peeped inside our room and found my sister already sleeping soundly. I told the guy to enter my parents’ bedroom and sleep there instead.

As he was about to sleep, and I, about to leave… he took my arm and pinned me down on the bed. My initial reaction was to struggle, jump and run for dear life.

#Ten

It’s been 10 months since I allowed myself to fall again. It took me a lot of courage to believe the things that I thought weren’t true, or would never be true for me. Amidst all the doubts and fears, I immersed myself with all the wonderful feelings of having gazillions of butterflies in the stomach, having to breathe and not breathe at the same time, and the best yet… smiling alone. *I’m doing it right now…*

My sister told me that she didn’t think we’d pass 2 months. I did, too. I thought that this would just be an experimental thing, a test drive, just to know if I am ready to take the plunge again. Somehow, it felt right. We felt right.

He’s the total opposite of myself. He’s the optimist and I am the cynical one. I learned a lot of things from him, or should I say, I felt the change in me, positive ones. My mom saw it, too. I find myself more appreciative of the littlest things, and I lean more on the positive side of every negative thing I encounter. I think he rubbed on his lollipops and sunshine to me.

I never thought that I would meet a person like him. We live far from each other. From his house, it’s a tricycle ride, a long walk to the highway, a bus ride, another long walk to the terminal, an FX ride or bus ride, then a jeepney ride to our house. It takes him about 2 hours to get here. Although he doesn’t say it, I know that it’s hard for him to travel that long in this hot climate. He complains about the heat, but never have I heard him complain that he has to come see me. We both hate the heat, so I can understand his frustrations about that. He should have brought travel supplies, like an umbrella or a hat to prevent being burned by the sun.

Sans the heat, you can always hear the enthusiasm on his voice when he tells me, “I can’t wait to see you tomorrow!”. I learned to smile more often because of him. I also learned to control my anxiety and my temper. He also knows how to calm me down. It’s something that most people can’t do. Maybe we’re twin souls. If we are, then we’re the luckiest people on earth.

My Grandma

My grandma was rushed to the hospital 2 days ago. She was diagnosed with Broncho Pneumonia1, which really worried me. I have been suggesting for them to hire a personal nurse to monitor her health. She’s turning 92 on August, she’s not getting any younger. She needs someone who would focus on her needs only. I know that my aunt is there, but she’s got other things to do.

I told my dad to just take grandma here, at home. It’s quieter here, plus there is almost no pollution. But my grandma doesn’t really want to leave house. She should be enjoying her life now, without worries. I just hope that the her sons and daughters, except my dad, would see her as their mother, and not their moneymaker. Yes, my grandma receives more than a call center agent’s salary, but they take advantage of her and take her money. I just hate how some of them are lazy bums who are always at the mercy of my grandma’s pensions.

My grandma has always been a strong woman. She can still walk, and a few years ago, she still does her own laundry. She always reminds me to do the right things, be a good daughter and to accomplish what I need to. I admire her so much. I am actually her favorite grandchild. I miss her so much.

She was discharged from the hospital today. Hopefully, she will feel better soon.

It’s “YOUR” Fault

I am supposed to be asleep right now (3:39am), but obviously, I am not. I was bothered by Ryan’s lack of discipline today. Well, technically, it was last night. He knew he had to wake up by 11pm so he could get ready for work, but he slept at 9pm. I understand that there was a party at their house yesterday because of his cousin’s Christening1 but that’s no excuse to drink and be late for work. I had been calling his cellphone for 30 minutes non-stop just to wake him up, but then the battery emptied, so I called their house. His uncle (about 2 years older than us) answered the phone and I asked if Ryan was getting ready for work. He was the one who told me that Ryan drank last night and slept late. I had to explain to him that he has to wake him up or else Ryan’s boss would be breathing on his neck. After 15 minutes, he sent me a text message and blamed his uncle for sleeping late. Duh. He knows his responsibility.

I dislike hearing excuses by blaming things on someone else when it is very obvious that it is your fault. It makes me feel stupid and I don’t like being patronized. I’ve told him more than 5 times to answer my questions straight up because I am mature enough to handle things, and I know when I am given a stupid alibi. I may sometimes keep mum on these sort of things, but it doesn’t mean he should take advantage of it.

Argh!

The Best

I sent a text message to Ryan last night, telling him how sad I am because we weren’t able to spend real time together. I slept with a heavy heart. This morning, I awoke with the sound of my cellphone, ringing. It was him, and he’s asking me the ingredients of a fridge cake. He said he was in the grocery store. After I text messaged him the ingredients, he replied with “Be ready when I get there.”

I smiled to myself and quickly jumped off bed. I got my towel and took a long shower. After an hour, Boo, who was sleeping, jumped to the couch and looked out the window. She heard the service and smelled Ryan. ^_^

We both greeted him, me with a kiss, and her with a jumping spree to his lap! *lol* We had lunch first with my mom and brother. Then we started making the fridge cake.

Ingredients:

  • 3 boxes of Nestle’s All Purpose Creme
  • 2 packs of Graham Crackers
  • 1 pack of Crushed Graham Crackers
  • 2 and 1/2 cans of Carnation Condensed Milk
  • Ripe fruit, or any in can

Tools:

  • Whisk
  • Bowl
  • Any fridge-friendly Tupperware square/rectangle container

Unwanted Visitor

I am just sad right now. It seems like 2 days flew by so fast. It would be another 5 days before I see Ryan again.. I don’t want to sound so melodramatic, but, I have that knot in my heart. (Eww.)

Today, we both woke up late, but as usual, it took forever for him to fix up and get here. I mean, two hours to get ready? It only takes me about 30 minutes to an hour tops to get ready when I need to go somewhere. I really hate it when this happens, and I’ve told him time and time again. His answer, “At least I’m here now.”

I don’t want to sound so bitchy, but time was wasted. We didn’t get to watch some the movies that I rented because my sister’s friend, like always, just showed up without warning. Really. My sister had no idea she’d be coming and taking over our afternoon until the evening!

So instead of me and Ryan hogging the living room watching movies, she had to share space with us and asked my sister if we can watch Heroes, instead. Of course, I didn’t want to be rude and tell her that I don’t want to, so that’s what we ended up doing.  But I promised Ryan that we’d watch Heroes from the first to the last episode, and now he’s seen the last 5 episodes. Sigh…

I just feel so bummed right now.

And it’s raining.

Dog Vaccination: We Got Injected!

Booboo gets vaccinated!
(Sorry for the poor quality, it’s from my mom’s Nokia 7250)

I am sleep deprived, but since our Homeowners’ Association circulated an email about dog vaccinations, I got up earlier than I usually do, because they only prepared 120 vaccines available for 120 dogs. It’s strictly first come, first serve. Booboo is not accustomed to her leash, so when I started to walk towards the clubhouse, she wouldn’t move, I tried to tug her leash, and she wouldn’t budge. So I carried her and took the 10-minute walk.

A lot of dogs were already there in different shapes, sizes and breeds. I could feel her heart beating so fast, I know she’s nervous amongst other dogs. I saw another Spitz like her, and they almost look alike sans the lightbrown fur Booboo has, due to her Yellow Lab Retriever blood.

I am glad that the HA made this proposed project possible. I only paid Php50 (less than US$1) for the vaccination. It’s actually a part of our local government’s project, too. All your community has to do is write a letter of intent to your mayor, and then he would forward the letter to the Department of Health. Then DoH will schedule a vaccination day in your community.

I am so tired. My arms hurt! Booboo is so heavy…

I VotedI exercised my right 2 days ago. It was my first time to vote, and along with that, I was a poll watcher, too. I got up at 5am to get ready and walk to the precinct. By 7am, I stood in line to wait for my turn to vote. It took me about 10 minutes to finish writing all the candidates that I feel deserve to win. After casting my vote, I was on duty.

My sister, a neighbor and I were in charge of looking up people’s names on the master list and providing them of their precinct number. I discovered a lot of things while doing that. I realized that there are a lot of people from our neighborhood that are very honest. When they see the names of their relatives on the list, they inform us that they can’t vote because they’re either dead, out of the country, or is unavailable to vote. But I also discovered that there are names on the list that are doubled, or is still listed to vote on our area even if they have transfered to vote somewhere else. It’s a bit disappointing to actually see the list with false data. Tsk tsk…

Voting started at 7am and ended at 3pm. We started counting the votes by 4:30pm. Two of us we’re assigned to tally the votes as they were read out load by the chairman. We finished tallying the 92 ballots at 10pm. It’s disappointing to know that some voters didn’t fill out the ballot completely. Some were even blank.

I think the candidate that I voted for the mayoral position is not going to win, based on the results from neighboring municipalities. He won from ours. I do hope that after the counting is done, he would be declared as the winner. He has done a lot for our community. The flooding has lessened, streetlights has been installed on the main road, and I think that the community is much cleaner.I also noticed that more people are smarter voters now. I am so glad that the candidates for senators that I voted for are leading. The local actors who ran are way down below the unofficial results. I do hope that no hocus-pocus happens or we’re doomed!

I am so glad I survived. I got home at 3am! I didn’t go the the Municipal Hall anymore to bring the election returns. The coordinator is in charge of that and chose 3 other poll watchers to come along. I was dead tired. When I got home, I only had time to brush my teeth and change clothes. When I hit the bed, I just fell asleep immediately.

So far, the elections have been peaceful in our community. But, there are some unfortunate incidents that were shown on the news. Like the 2 teachers who died when a school building in Taysan, Batangas was engulfed by fire. One candidate for councilor also died of a heart attack after receiving a false text message saying that he lost, but in reality, he got into the top 12.

I just hope that the persons who deserve to win, wins!

Make It Count

Philippine ElectionsThe Philippine Elections 2007 is on May 14. I didn’t care much about politics until now, since I have the right to vote for the people whom I think deserves a seat in the government.

My mom was tasked to be the coordinator for poll watchers in our community. I will be one of the poll watchers along with my sister, Jesseca. We attended a meeting last Friday and were oriented on what our responsibilities are.

It is very important to guard the votes from flying voters, risen-from-the-dead voter1, and voter snatchers. I never thought I’d be a part of something as important as this. I am glad that my mom persuaded me to register myself to vote.

Philippine Elections 2007At 24, I realized that I should start to care about the country I live in. This is for my future, too. A wise choice among the pool of candidates must be done. I already have a short list, but it could still change.

Since this is my first time to vote, ever. I have taken into consideration some things, like the following:

  1. What will this candidate do for this country?
  2. If he has been elected before, what has he accomplished? Did he finish all the projects he promised he would do?
  3. Is he worth the future of my family?
  4. Does he care about his own family?
  5. Is he/she an experienced politician?

But that list is too short, I think. I also talk to my parents about their choices since they have been voting for years now. I understand that they may consider different things, but at least I will have an idea. My decision will affect how this country will function. I maybe one count from the millions of votes, but at least, if I make the right choices, it will count as much as it would a million.

Spider-Man 3

No Spoilers here! Just a review.

Spider-Man 3Yesterday, Ryan and I went to see Spider-Man 3 on IMAX at the Mall of Asia. Last week, when we reserved seats, the dates from May 1 to 6 was mostly sold out! We were lucky enough to get seats for the 1:30pm screening yesterday. The cinema was packed with people of all ages, sizes and orientation. *lol*

I was really expecting a lot of good things from this 3rd installment because I have been hearing a lot of great reviews online and from friends. The truth is, I am not even a big fan of Spider-Man, Ryan is. But seeing this film made me appreciate his character. It’s really a plus that they were able to interpret Spider-Man’s humanness, even with the suit.

Sam Raimi made the right decision when he included Venom (Topher Grace) in this installment. When I learned that Topher would play Venom, I was skeptic and I couldn’t imagine how he would adapt himself in the character. He did a great job. He was believable as a villain. Thomas Haden Church being the Sandman, made the film more interesting to watch. Of course, it was a little unbelievable when he didn’t even die when he was caught between a scientific experiment, but it’s still a great thing that he retained his good heart, a father who only want to help his daughter.

One thing though, when Peter was the black spidey, he wasn’t that aggressive. Still, there are parts of the film, when he was walking along the streets of New York, that were hilarious! Watch out for his dancing stint! Well, two things. The meteor that contained the black ink-like creature was never explained. I mean, they never mentioned where it came from. I wanted to know! Oh well…

As always expected, MJ is always the damsel in distress hanging for dear life from a a very high tangled web. *rolls eyes*

But enough of that. Every moment of the film is a must see. The effects were amazing, but was still believable. Spidey in the black suit was awesomely sexy! (and so emo! gah…) This movie, I would say, is the best among the trilogy, and if this was the only movie shown of the three, I would still say it’s amazing. All the characters were portrayed perfectly, and in the end found their true selves. I think that’s one of the things I loved in this film. They made sure that each character tied their loose ends before the film ended.
