Twilight: The movie might suck.

Before you throw stones at me, hear me out first. Yep. I am talking to my potential haters. I’ve always wanted to read the book, Twilight, since I’ve seen it at Fullybooked at the Mall of Asia last year. The cover in itself intrigued me. When I finally bought the book, I was hooked, of course, like all the others around the world. Okay, maybe I am exaggerating, but still…

Anyway, I got excited when I learned that the book is turning into a movie. Of course, I have an Edward and Bella imagined in my head. I googled the casting for the movie and voila! I am not 100% sure that they chose the right actors to play the parts of Edward, Bella, Laurent, Rosalie. Especially Rosalie! Isn’t she supposed to be the epitome of beauty? Plus Laurent. Laurent is black? How can a black vampire look PALE???

Okay, so maybe they had to make the movie a little commercialized, but, isn’t the book hype reason enough to find better actors? I am not saying that the actors chosen suck, but, I’ve pictured the characters in my head and somehow, the movie characters didn’t suit the ones in my head. Or maybe, I have a different standard.

I know that a lot of Harry Potter fans were disappointed with how the movies turned out, so I am bracing myself for the Twilight Saga movies. I know I am bound to find something wrong with it, like a scene that shouldn’t be there, or a changed setting. I wonder if they will change how Breaking Dawn panned out. I mean, that final book was dragging and did not meet my expectations. However, I will still watch the movies but treat them as adaptations. I don’t want to disappoint myself if the movie is not as accurate. Honestly, I did enjoy the HP movies, just because I’ve never read a single book. I am really hoping that the movie won’t suck, but, it really, really might suck. There, I said it. Again. Twilight: The Movie might suck. Bowls and bowls of suckage.

  1. Oh, we have the same opinion. XD I’ve read a little of Twilight, and the movie just doesn’t have this “feel”. I don’t know. :))

Like I said, I will still watch the movie. I guess, you will never really appreciate the movie if you have read the book. I suggest that you read the books first before watching the movie. :)

  6. They always say the book is better than the movie

Hmm maybe that’s why i’m not too excited about the books. I’m more excited about the movie so that I wouldn’t have much expectations from it. Hehe. A friend of mine even said that the Twilight books are pretty overrated. I dunno about that since I haven’t read the books myself sooo yeah.

  8. Umm, maybe Im imagining things but wasnt Laurent described as a black person in the books? And Akasha was black in Queen of the Damned. And in True Blood, there was a black vampire, too. So what if a vampire is black? Paleness isn’t what solely defines a vampire’s physical appearance; it’s looking like the undead that does.

I’m not a huge Twilight fan and I whether or not this movie sucks, I’m still going to watch it. My boyfriend is a fan, though, and let me just copypaste his comment on a Twilight article over at tMF:

Speaking as a slightly more than casual MALE fan of the series, I AM
looking forward to the movie and
expect it to be a success by any
definition of the term. Here’s why:

    Strictly from a critical standpoint,
    there’s the hope that Catherine
    Hardwicke’s proven (if a little
controversial) ability to reach out to
    the film’s target audience coupled
    with Stephenie Meyer’s involvement
will work perfectly to convey what I
think is the book’s main draw: Getting
in the head of the average american
teen with average issues that suddenly
get just a tad exciting. I am sure the
tandem will work towards (and if those
    leaked scripts floating around the
intarwebs are any indication) a film
as faithful to the book as 2 hours and
some odd minutes can interpret. Oh I’m
sure there’ll be some changes made for
the sake of flow and “watchability”,
but the fans won’t mind much, seeing
    as Meyer obviously rubberstamped them.
Now as for the recipe, well, it’s a
    forbidden love story with a
    fantasy/suspense twist, an obviously
fan approved cast, and it even
promises a little bit of action. Need
I make the obvious Romeo and Juliet to
    Titanic success connections?

Will it draw the male demographic?
Well, hmm, R&J was written by a man
(Shakes!) and Titanic? Penned by the
same guy who wrote The Terminator.
I’ll say this much, all those
screaming girls I saw mobbing the book
release at Borders are going to need
dates, and those dates are going to
need some moral support from their
peers. Oh they’ll be in there (whether
    kicking and screaming or wrapped
    around their girlfriends), and count
for the majority of those boys to take
a hint from Edward and spring for
their dates too, I’m putting my dollar
on that. Besides, if I was a smart guy
I’d realize the action is IN the
theater, if not exactly on the screen.

Also, in pegging the success of a
    book-based movie, there are always
those high budget ones the fanboys are
sure to watch whether or not the
writer is supportive of the movie
based on his work. But an underdog,
    author supported, and
    “humble”(relatively low budget) movie
that is based on a wildly successful
book with a vocal and almost rabid
fanbase, which by itself doubles as a
chickflick AND a date movie? well, the
only question about this being a hit
is which record it will break.

Lastly, much as I hate to tie this
movie to what is going on around us
right now, the state of the nation is
frankly quite depressing. I believe we
all could use a couple of hours away
from this reality, immersed in a
little town called Forks, watching a
    forbidden love story unfold.

Expect that I’m not the only one who
    feels that way.

  10. Anyway, as I was saying, I think Laurent was described as black in the books and I dont see what’s so surprising or odd about a black vampire since paleness isn’t what describes a vampire’s physcial appearance, but looking undead. Akasha from Queen of the Damned was black and so was that one vampire in True Blood. As for the movie, whether or not it sucks, I’ll still be watching it. 14. what’s so surprising about a black vampire?

I just thought that “olive-skinned” is JLo-skinned. Not black. lol

Uhm, laurent was described as black in the book. Meyer’s vampires aren’t nec. pale, they just sparkle in the sun.

The movie will be trying to portray the book as closely as possible, and it has a good chance of success, considering the author is part of the process. We’ll see i guess?

  16. Uhm, laurent was described as black in the book.

    I took “olive-skinned” as JLo skin ;)

The actors did a horrible job. It was difficult to get past the bad acting. Laurent was actually really funny during the press interview I did with him. He said he read message boards and fans were upset that he was black and the book describes him as a light, olive complexion. He responded that he is like an olive…..a black olive.

You’re not alone. Trust me. One word that would simplify all my thought about the movie is: dull. The book exceptionally detailed every little event, character, memory, dream from beginning to end. The movie, though, was so limited when it comes to the characters. I mean Bella is supposed to be such a unique character, but the movie makes her seem just a “normal” teenager (with issues). Maybe it’s the actress, maybe it’s the directing…I don’t know. It’s just not right!

One thing too: Edward. Edward, Edward, Edward. It’s so obvious that his face is powdered. The actor himself, IMO, isn’t all that great. I’m just going to stay at that because I know many love Robert Pattison.

I don’t quite know how to say this, but the scenes of the book are quite limited. Where’s all the graphic details? The passionate intimacy between the lovers? Guess computer graphics (CG) doesn’t do much these days!
So to sum it up–it’s the actors, the scenes, and the movie in general. The movie doesn’t effectively describe the essence, or true meaning, of the book and its happenings.
